“Death of the Inferno” – Final Preview Until Release Day!

"After the Inferno" CD Release Party - September 2014

Well folks, here it is! The final track and the final preview from After the Inferno, our classic show closer “Death of the Inferno”. We always wanted to re-record this one since it’s changed musically and collected so much more meaning over the last decade of playing it live. I think this version finally captures the intensity of the live performances.

It also features guest vocals from Bill and Melissa from the late great Bat Country, Emma and Devon of Gunstreet Glory and Robert Rial of Bakelite 78. An honor to have such great voices on our album. Truly.

The positive press keeps rolling in. Morton Shlabtonik from Milwaukee’s Shepherd Express said: “The Bad Things are an Americana group with a particular perspective, which includes conjuring ghosts of the city’s militant past—a place that outsiders from old weird America called home. Recorded with stringed acoustic instruments, accordion, gently brushed drums and even a softly intoned trumpet here and there, The Bad Things bring a contemporary sensibility to folk music.”

And the Midwest Book Review said: “After the Inferno…treads the tenuous border between love and destruction. Songs resonate with a touch of sadness for the tragedies of the past, but also build upon renewed hope for the future. Intense and powerful, After the Inferno reflects resilience, perseverance, and remembrance. “

Release day’s on Tuesday! If you live in Seattle you can get physical copies at Georgetown Records, Sonic Boom, Easy Street and all Silver Platters locations (SoDo, Northgate and Bellevue). If you’re outside of Seattle you can get it at our CD Baby Music Store, via iTunes or on Knick Knack Records‘ website.

Or you can buy it directly from us at our CD Release Party at the Columbia City Theater next Friday. Get tickets now ’cause they’re going quick.

Track Six – “Grifter’s Life”!

This song goes back almost to the beginning of the band and definitely has more of our “classic” sound to it than the other tracks on the record. It’s taken almost a decade to commit the song to record but we’ve finally done it. This one is always a hit live and you can see why. Music to drunkenly stomp around to. Hope you dig it.

We’re less than two weeks away from release day and this is the second to last track that we’ll be previewing prior to the release date. On Tuesday, September 9th, we’ll be offering a special iTunes pre-sale where you can purchase the album early and it will automatically be downloaded into your iTunes library on Tuesday, September 16. Check back on the 9th for the link to that pre-sale.

Also, be sure to pick up tickets to the CD Release party here. They’re going fast.

Tractor on Wednesday! CD Release Coming!

10438692_10203007575884254_2037135582_nThis Wednesday, July 23, we’ll be playing a very cool show. Legendary post-punk drummer Martin Atkins will be giving a lecture on the current state of the music business from the perspective of an independent musician who has done time in Public Image Ltd., Killing Joke, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails & Pigface.

Martin will give his lecture at 7:30pm followed by The Bad Things. Stick around after our set as we’ll be followed by Lynval Golding of The Specials’ new band Gigantor and Seattle’s own horror-punk stalwarts Spiderface closing out the night. Get tickets at Brown Paper Tickets and pay no service fees.

We’ll have download cards of the new album for sale so you can download the new record After the Inferno the second it comes out on Tuesday, September 16.

Speaking of, we also want to announce that the CD Release party for After the Inferno is happening on Friday, September 19 at Columbia City Theater. We’re still working on the opener but should be announcing that soon. Advanced tickets are available here.

We’ll also be playing some regional dates in celebration of the release:

Thursday, September 25 – Bellingham, WA at The Green Frog with Rattletrap Ruckus

Friday, September 26 – Portland, OR at The Alberta Street Pub with Chervona. Advanced tickets available here.

Saturday, September 27 – Olympia, WA at TBA.

Look for more regional dates soon. Also, we’ll be at Big Al Brewing in White Center on Saturday, August 9th. Also, look for an announcement of a new music video we’ve been brewing up. So many exciting things!

P.S. If you didn’t fill out our survey, please do. It will help us determine our next moves in terms of travel and booking. If you already filled it out, we love you. Thanks.

Cabaret Macabre Next Week!

PrintTen years ago, we had the bright idea to throw a weird-ass Halloween party. At the first Cabaret Macabre, we rolled into Georgetown after a crazy night in Portland, playing at Porky’s in Northeast with Reverend Glasseye. Our old banjo player showed up to the gig drunk and ended up attempting some acrobatics off of a table at Porky’s, which ended with him landing squarely in Glasseye’s drum kit! We always knew how to make a good impression on a national act.

So, it was with crippling hangovers that we started this now decade-old celebration in a raw, warehouse space featuring a fine collection of all our weirdo friends. The first one was ramshackle, but somehow, perfect. It was so good that there are folks that have attended every year and since then, it’s been held at Jules Mae’s in Georgetown, the Rendezvous, ACT Theater and, for the last three years, Columbia City Theater.

Here’s Iva Handfull in 2010 at the Columbia City Theater. She’ll be joining us again this year!

Podcast Tonight. Show Friday! #SporkestraBadThingsEbola

Well, life is certainly different now that we’re big TV stars. We can barely walk down the street without being mobbed. It’s crazy!

Not really but we can dream can’t we? If you missed the show, you can watch the highlights online. Here’s us doing Georgia Lee Is Dead. And, here we are premièring our new song Not Tonight. And here’s the whole darn show.

Tonight at 7pm, we’ll also be featured on the online radio station 1337ology Radio courtesy of our buddy Josh Black AKA Ronald McFondle’s brand new podcast Reversible Battlemat. This is their debut show and Josh will feature a musical act every week. We’re honored to be featured on their grand debut. Remember, that’s tonight, Tuesday, April 3rd at 7pm PST.

Then, of course, this Friday, we’ll be causing havoc and getting rowdy with our buddies Titanium Sporkestra at the Columbia City Theater.

Quite a week for us Bad Things!

Coming Up! TV and a Sporkestra/Ebola Extravaganza.

Thanks to all that came out to the Columbia City Theater on Sunday night. A good time was had by all.

The Bad Thing’s next public appearance will be a live television broadcast! That’s right, good ‘ol live Bad Things action beaming right into your living room. I get tingles just thinking about it. Our television debut will air on Friday, March 30th at 8pm on the Seattle Channel (Channel 21) as part of Art Zone with Nancy Guppy. We’ll be performing one brand new song and one Bad Things classic. The episode will also be re-broadcast throughout the following week so check out the schedule and find a time that’s convenient for you.

After that, on Friday, April 6th, we’ll return to the Columbia City Theater with the great Titanium Sporkestra headlining and Oakland’s legendary Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggets opening. This is a dream lineup for a Friday night and a good opportunity to engage in questionable behavior in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Hey, what happens in Columbia City, stays in Columbia City. We promise.

You can pick up tickets from Brown Paper Tickets right over here. I recommend picking them up in advance as this will be a packed show.

Here’s a little preview of Bobby Ebola’s classic “Life Is Excellent.”

Toy Pianos, Accordions and Drunken Revelry!

On Sunday, March 11, 2012, The Columbia City Theater will host an eclectic evening featuring Seattle’s The Bad Things, Bay Area chanteuse Eliza Rickman and the Toy-Box Trio. Each of these artists has recently gain notoriety in the neo-cabaret and steampunk communities but labeling them as “steampunk” is doing each a serious disservice. Their music transcends overnight trends, infused with a hard-won authenticity that’s hard to find amongst the goggle and corset set. Continue reading
