It’s Been A Hell of a Year….

So, here we are. 2012 is over. It’s been a strange year for The Bad Things, to say the least.

We opened the year with a great show at The Comet, played on TV, visited our buddy Danbert Nobacon in Twisp for his 50th birthday, lost our practice space and thousands of dollars worth of equipment in a fire, had a busy and inspiring Folklife weekend and Punk As Folk showcase featuring, amongst other incredible acts, the last live performance of God’s Favorite Beefcake.

The week that followed was one of the worst weeks ever experienced within our Seattle artistic community, but, somehow, in the middle of it all, Mad Wilcox had an amazing marriage ceremony, lifting our spirits for a night. That beautiful night was followed by a month of fundraising shows, playing through multiple tears and multiple beers, and remembering our lost friends. Continue reading

Danbert & The Bad Things on No Depression’s Blog!

Danbert Nobacon & The Bad Things. Woebegone.
2010. Verbal Burlesque Records.

Ok this one is technically from late 2010, but I’ve just gotta include it. Danbert Nobacon is one of the crazy British anarchists that formed folk-pop icons Chumbawamba back in the 90s. You’ll remember them from their insanely catchy “Tubthumping“: (I get knocked down/but I get up again… You’re never gonna keep me down). I always thought of this as a pop song, since I first saw it on MTV as a teenager. But Nobacon and the Chumbawamba crew came out of Britain’s anarcho-punk underground and were serious counter-culture heads. Nobacon is famous for pouring a jug of ice water on the British prime minister’s head during a state dinner. My kinda guy! Continue reading

Bad Things spring report…..

Howdy fans!

Well, we’ve been laying low for the last month or so….writing some new songs that are sounding great and getting ready for Folklife which is coming right up.  It’ll be our fourth year at Folklife and this year we’ll be playing on Sunday, May 24th in the afternoon (1:40pm to be exact) on the Fountain Lawn stage.  Bring the kiddies…this is pretty much the only all-ages show we do during the year and it’s FREE for christ’s sake (although I do suggest donating!)  Then that evening we’ll be throwing our third annual Folklife afterparty at The Can Can with The Bad Mitten Orchestre from Eugene (amazing), Miss Oblivious who will be showing her latest cinematic masterpieces, The Can Can Castaways with The Bad Things, and the always incredible Orkestar Zirkonium closing out the night.  Whew….I got a hangover just thinking  about it.
