Bad Things reporting from summer hiatus….

Hey all,

How’s the summer going?  Things are good here in the land of the Bad Things.  We usually lay low in the summer and get our strength back up for the fall and winter and it looks like it’s going to be a busy one this year.

First of all we got Miss Funi’s book “A Haunted Half-Life at Jules Maes Saloon” coming out this fall on Sabella Press.  We’re having a big ‘ol party at Jules Maes with The Wages of Sin on September 11th to celebrate.  This is your chance to pick up a copy and get it signed by the author, the incredibly talented Miss Funi.  She’ll be doing other signings around town and around the country and we’ll keep you as informed as we can about her book and her new life as a…ahem….serious artist.

Then we’re doing a 4-show run of The Breaking on September 18th, 20th, 25th and 27th at The Can Can.  The show is new and improved with new dancers and new routines.  Space is extremely limited at the Can Can so get advanced tickets as soon as they go on sale which should be in the next week or so.  I’ll post the link once they’re for sale.  We’ll be doing the show again as part of the Seattle International Cabaret Festival happening in November.

Then, in October, we’ll be recording with our buddy Danbert Nobacon.  The working title for his new one is “Future Country – Songs of Oil, Sex, and Death” and man, the songs are fantastic.  We’re excited to put our Bad Things touch to his music.  Expect a spring release on this one.  We’ll be doing some shows with him out in Twisp and we’ll be bringing him over the mountain to do some shows with us this fall as well so you’ll get a chance to hear some of the new songs.

Speaking of the fall, all Bad Things fans know that our big show of the year is our Halloween show.  Well, this year we’ve decided to postpone our Cabaret Macabre show until Friday, November 13th so it can be part of the Seattle International Cabaret Festival.  We’ve been talking to the Peculiar Pretzelmen and Danbert about doing the show with us this year plus some other surprise guests so stay tuned.  Seems almost sacrilege not to have The Bad Things play on Halloween but we’ll be back next year most likely.  Ya’ll should still dress up regardless!  Just extend Halloween for a couple more weeks.

And, I, Jimmy the Pickpocket will be performing on Wednesday, August 26th as part of the Monsters of Accordion show at The Triple Door with Jason Webley, Geoff Berner, Stevhen Iancu, and Eric Stern.  I’ve been asked to be the special guest for Seattle and I’m quite honored.  I’ll be doing a couple songs solo and then will be bringing Captain Panto out on dobro and banjo.  We’ll do mostly Bad Things tunes with a few covers thrown in so come out and check it out.  I’d love to have help singing “Death of the Inferno” from some true Bad Things fans!

There’s lots more on the horizon, like the Cabaret Festival happening in November, but details are still in the works so I won’t spoil the surprise just yet.  Keep your eyes peeled for advanced Breaking tickets here in the next week or so and hopefully we’ll be seeing your smiling drunken faces soon at one of these stellar events.

cheers,

The Bad Things
