Punk! Folk! Rock & Roll! Coming to The Tractor on August 17.

2025 has been light on shows as we’ve been hyper-focused on finishing the fifth Bad Things album. But, after a kick-ass show at The Clock Out Lounge last weekend, our live show is back and better than ever. So, we are excited as hell to announce our next show on Sunday, August 17 at The Tractor Tavern in Ballard with The Drowns and Danbert Nobacon opening!

As most of you know, we’re GenX-ers and all of us were raised on punk rock in the 80s and 90s. Punk is core to our sound and attitude and we’ve always considered ourselves a “punk folk” band, though the definition has morphed over time. Danbert Nobacon and Chumbawamba were certainly one of the first bands within the anarcho-punk scene that incorporated folk influences so they started me down the path of discovering rebel songs throughout history.

The Drowns may not incorporate folk, but folk imagery runs deep in their lyrics with references to Woody Guthrie in their ode to Seattle, “Battery Street.” Honestly, as an old fart in his 50s, there’s very little contemporary punk that gets me excited like the old records did, but The Drowns are an exception and nothing if not exciting. They mine some great eras of rock and roll, mixing the pub rock/proto-punk of bands like Dr. Feelgood and Rose Tattoo, with the singalong choruses of 70s/80s street punk like Cock Sparrer and The Business and a little Chuck Berry thrown in for extra measure. It’s high energy, melodic and they rock the fuck out of it live. They joined us for our Shane MacGowan tribute, and I found out they were long-time Bad Things fans. We’ve been itching to collaborate ever since, so here we go. Also, this is their only Seattle show this year!

Tickets go on sale today at 10AM PST, so get yours now before they’re gone!

cheers,

Tractor on Wednesday! CD Release Coming!

10438692_10203007575884254_2037135582_nThis Wednesday, July 23, we’ll be playing a very cool show. Legendary post-punk drummer Martin Atkins will be giving a lecture on the current state of the music business from the perspective of an independent musician who has done time in Public Image Ltd., Killing Joke, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails & Pigface.

Martin will give his lecture at 7:30pm followed by The Bad Things. Stick around after our set as we’ll be followed by Lynval Golding of The Specials’ new band Gigantor and Seattle’s own horror-punk stalwarts Spiderface closing out the night. Get tickets at Brown Paper Tickets and pay no service fees.

We’ll have download cards of the new album for sale so you can download the new record After the Inferno the second it comes out on Tuesday, September 16.

Speaking of, we also want to announce that the CD Release party for After the Inferno is happening on Friday, September 19 at Columbia City Theater. We’re still working on the opener but should be announcing that soon. Advanced tickets are available here.

We’ll also be playing some regional dates in celebration of the release:

Thursday, September 25 – Bellingham, WA at The Green Frog with Rattletrap Ruckus

Friday, September 26 – Portland, OR at The Alberta Street Pub with Chervona. Advanced tickets available here.

Saturday, September 27 – Olympia, WA at TBA.

Look for more regional dates soon. Also, we’ll be at Big Al Brewing in White Center on Saturday, August 9th. Also, look for an announcement of a new music video we’ve been brewing up. So many exciting things!

P.S. If you didn’t fill out our survey, please do. It will help us determine our next moves in terms of travel and booking. If you already filled it out, we love you. Thanks.

RIP Drew and Joe. It’s Been Good To Know Ya’!

Tragedy struck our Seattle music scene a week ago. We’ve been decidedly silent on the website so I wanted to include a little tribute to two good friends of The Bad Things that were taken from us in an act of senseless violence. I’m sure most of you know what we’re talking about but if you don’t, you can read about it here and read about the friends we lost here…along with the other victims of this horrific crime. As you can see by our previous post, we had just played a show with them, so this really hit home hard.

Also, tomorrow, we will be playing a tribute show to them and the other victims alongside their former band mates and musical compatriots and performers that they’d worked with. More on that here. We will also be partaking in another tribute/fundraiser at The Tractor Tavern on Tuesday, July 19th so stay tuned for more information on that. And there’s a widget on our homepage that will take you to the site where you can donate money and find out about all the fundraising events going on in Seattle for the families of those lost and for the one survivor of this horrible event.

Here’s a beautiful song recorded at Drew aka Shmootzi’s birthday party at Cafe Racer last year. Listen and cry and drink and repeat. Also, check out Jimmy the Pickpocket’s tributes to our uber-talented, fallen friends after the jump.
